Overview
Siemens works with many Universities across the UK & this is determined by two factors:
- The reputation/alignment for the subject;
- The locality to our major sites.
For example we are developing wind power technologies with Keele University, working with Oxford University on Molecular Imaging, and we are part of the IMMEPETUS consortium at Sheffield University.

The Sir William Siemens Medal
The Sir William Siemens Medal is an annual award scheme that currently runs with 18 universities across the UK (see map). These universities have been selected to participate in the award based on their academic excellence in various fields of engineering and technology.
Fast facts
- The Sir William Siemens Medal Award programme was established in 1993, the year Siemens celebrated its 150th anniversary in the UK to recognise and reward excellence in Science and Engineering at schools and universities across the UK.
- The first Sir William Siemens Medal was in fact awarded back in 1883 by London's Imperial College University. So the present day programme revives a tradition more than a hundred years old.
- The Aim of the programme is to promote an interest in science and technology among young people and award excellent achievements-The criteria for awarding the medals are set by the university and approved by Siemens. The only criteria set by Siemens is that the winner be studying towards their undergraduate degree when they colelct the medal-The medal winners and their tutor meet for a national presentation day each year where they receive their engraved medal and monetary award.
